Introducing Comprehensive Staking Yield Metrics for Ethereum
With Proof of Stake (PoS) becoming a dominant method for securing blockchains, understanding staking yields is crucial. Following Ethereum’s shift to PoS in the Merge, it’s more important than ever for those analyzing Ethereum’s economic performance to understand the yield generated by staking. Coin Metrics is thrilled to announce a new set of comprehensive metrics for Ethereum staking yields, designed to provide clarity in this complex area.
Yield and Inflation Metrics for Ethereum
The transition from Proof of Work (PoW) to Proof of Stake (PoS) during the Merge fundamentally changed Ethereum’s economic incentives. To help our clients make sense of these changes, we’re introducing new metrics covering Annual Percentage Rate (APR), Annual Percentage Yield (APY), and inflation rates.
These metrics allow users to:
- Understand nominal and real staking rates to evaluate the rewards for participating in Ethereum’s consensus process.
- Gain insight into staking and validator rates for Ethereum. It is important to note that while staking and validator rates are identical for Ethereum due to the absence of delegators, future assets covered by Coin Metrics will distinguish between delegators and validators, allowing for easier comparisons across different blockchains.

Dive Deep into Inflation Metrics
Evaluating staking yields is only part of the equation—understanding inflation is also critical. With our new inflation metrics, clients can explore Ethereum’s inflation at both a granular and macro level, enabling a comprehensive view of its long-term economic impact.
- View Daily Inflation Rates to track the short-term dynamics.
- Analyze Annualized Compounding Inflation Rates to assess long-term trends.
You can find further details on our inflation metrics in our Documentation for Daily Inflation Rates and Annualized Inflation Rates.
Flexible Frequency for Holistic Analysis
To support various analytical needs, Coin Metrics now offers staking yield metrics at both 1-hour and 1-day frequencies. This enables clients to:
- Perform intra-day analysis with 1-hour metrics, providing a more precise and dynamic view of short-term trends.
- Utilize daily aggregated metrics to generate actionable insights over longer periods, benefiting from a balanced view of both fine-grained and big-picture data.
With this level of precision and flexibility, you can conduct holistic analyses at a cadence that aligns with your specific use case.
Availability for Our Clients
As part of this release, our real-time Network Data clients will have access to both the 1-hour and 1-day metrics, while our end-of-day clients will receive access to metrics at a daily frequency. This ensures that each client can tailor their data analysis to best meet their requirements.
