Job Description

Coin Metrics is recruiting a Mid / Senior Back End Developer to work on our back end systems including cloud-based servers, databases, and APIs. Join a fast-paced startup pioneering novel metrics, data products, and insights surrounding the economics, markets, usage, health, and other aspects of public cryptocurrency blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum and other crypto networks. You will be surrounded by talented people passionate about decentralized economies and the data behind them. Location: Boston, Globally (remote) also considered

Responsibilities

Title and responsibilities will be commensurate with experience but may include the following:

  • Work to enhance the scalability, availability, and reliability of our back end systems including cloud-based servers, databases, and APIs
  • Write integration and unit tests and participate in code reviews
  • Design, document, and implement infrastructure and design plans with clear decision-making and rationale
  • Coordinate and communicate with technical and non-technical peers
  • Work with data scientists to develop and implement automated data testing processes or programs
  • Work with Dev Ops to develop and align monitoring systems and processes to ensure uptime and availability of back end systems

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or relevant work experience
  • Strong curiosity and passion for decentralized economies
  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • Experience with Unix-based operating systems (especially Linux)
  • Advanced knowledge of at least one mainstream statically typed programming language (Java, C#, C++, Go etc.)
  • Willingness to learn Kotlin
  • Experience working with large relational databases (preferably PostgreSQL)
  • Experience working on ETL pipelines
  • Strong sense of ownership, entrepreneurial spirit, and/or startup-like experience, capable of driving towards solutions independently while seeking feedback when appropriate
  • Required: strong attention to detail with capability to write tests

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field, or relevant work experience
  • At least 1 year in a senior development role
  • Knowledge of Kotlin
  • Experience working with distributed databases (e.g., Apache Hadoop ecosystem)
  • Experience with Jira and agile methodologies (e.g., SCRUM)
  • Experience with REST and WebSocket APIs
  • Knowledge of blockchain and related networks and their data structures
  • Experience with financial market data, market data feeds (e.g. FIX protocol) and related products and back end systems

Coin Metrics is recruiting a Financial Market Data Scientist / Analyst to support its market data engineering and data sciences functions. Join a fast-paced startup pioneering novel metrics, data products, and insights surrounding the economics, markets, usage, health, and other aspects of public cryptocurrency blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum and other crypto networks. You will be surrounded by talented people passionate about decentralized economies and the data behind them. Responsibilities

Title and responsibilities will be commensurate with experience but may include the following:

  • Develop methods (manually or automated) to parse, process, or analyze large market (or network) data sets
  • Propose and execute manual or automated tests based on sound statistical methods to identify data issues, document and log test cases and results, follow issues through to resolution, verify resolution, and propose new tests to discover re-occurrences
  • Work with Development to develop and implement testing processes or programs
  • Develop innovative statistical methodologies and data products
  • Backtest prediction models or investment strategies, find time-delayed correlations between assets, discover unique alerts or signals, and contribute to publications, manuscripts, or documentation
  • Maintain dictionaries of calculation or algorithmic methods for metrics or processes
  • Work with Development to create custom simple or embedded analytical tools, dashboards, or reports
  • Work with external clients (such as financial institutions) or vendors (such as exchanges)to solve problems, acquire data, and improve relationships

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Finance, Mathematics, or related field, or relevant work experience
  • Familiarity with financial terms and products and experience working with financial data across the above functions
  • Experience developing data tools or programs using languages such as Python, R, or similar languages
  • Experience developing methods and programs to parse, process, analyze, and comprehend big data sets
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong curiosity and passion for decentralized economies / decentralized finance
  • Strong sense of ownership, entrepreneurial spirit, and/or startup-like experience, capable of driving towards solutions independently while seeking feedback when appropriate

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with FIX protocol, REST and WebSocket APIs
  • 3+ years experience parsing, processing, analyzing or testing financial data in a data science or quant role
  • Bonus: knowledge of blockchain and related networks and their data structures
  • Bonus: experience in applying machine learning to solving problems or creating actionable predictions
